Ukraine City Pays Tribute to Jewish Writer
Drohobych will celebrate the Bruno Schulz Festival once again.
For the sixth consecutive year, the small city of Drohobych, Ukraine will throw another celebration for Jewish writer Bruno Schulz. Schulz was born in the Ukrainian town and its residents have been paying tribute to him with their annual Bruno Schulz Festival.
The celebrated author published works such as The Cinnamon Shops and Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass. He was killed by the Gestapo during World War II.
This year’s festival, titled “The Ark of Bruno Schulz’s Imagination,” will feature literary critics, filmmakers and theatre troops from Hungary, Belgium, France, United States and Poland. The presenters will each illustrate a piece of Schulz’s life and work.
The Bruno Schulz Festival ended on May 30.
