Book Examines Jewish Roots of 'Funnyman'
It's hard to find someone who hasn't heard of Superman, but the same can't be said about Funnyman.
It’s hard to find a comic book fan who hasn’t heard of Superman, but the same can’t be said about Funnyman. Both superheroes were created by Jarry Siegel and Joe Schuster.
Siegel and Shuster’s Funnyman: The First Jewish Superhero, from the Creators of Superman recounts what happened to the Superman creators after they split from DC Comics during the 1940s. They took their next creation, Funnyman, to a competing publisher.
Authors Thomas Andrea and Mel Gordon look at how the little-known Funnyman was created and how the superhero was developed. The book includes comic book stories and Sunday newspaper panels.
