The Social NetworkPic: Columbia PicturesThe most talked about movie since Avatar is being released this week and it couldn’t be any more Jewish. The Social Network, based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich, is the story of the early beginning of Faceook, the largest social media site in the world.
The movie’s written by Aaron Sorkin, the veteran television writer whose credits include the West Wing and the upcoming Brad Pitt feature, Moneyball and directed by David Fincher, of Fight Club fame. Playing Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg is Jesse Eisenberg, whose recently released movie Holly Rollers introduced audiences to drug dealing Hasidic Jews.
So we have a Jewish book author, Jewish film author, Jewish director and a Jewish actor playing a Jewish hero. This would usually either lead to a Woody Allen movie, of which none have been good in recent years, or a Coen Brothers movie, which would put most audiences to sleep.
However, the consensus here is that The Social Network is one of the best movies of the year. Here are snippets of some early reviews:

The Social Network opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, Oct 1st, 2010.
