Natalie Portman’s Father Writes Pregnancy Thriller

Oscar-winning actor Natalie Portman’s dad, Dr. Avner Hershlag, has utilized his fertility expertise for something other than medicine -- he completed a novel called Misconception that he has self-published.

Misconception officially launched in early 2010 through iUniverse. Hershlag is now shopping it around to major publishing houses, says the New York Observer.

"The author's pedigree may be more appealing to publishers than the novel's plot or subject matter," the Observer writes. "Dr. Hershlag is the father of actress Natalie Hershlag, better known as Portman."

Hershlag told the Observer that he’s always wanted to publish through a conventional outfit, but ran low on time due to his “day job” as a fertility specialist and Long Island doctor.

He describes his novel as a “reproductive thriller.” Amazon.com’s describes his novel as such: "When Dr. Anya Krim, the first lady's fertility specialist, delivers a grossly deformed baby of undetermined sex, she tries to figure out how the child was conceived. But, before she is able to determine the baby's origin, she diagnoses a pregnancy in Megan, a senator's daughter, who has been in a coma for two years."

The question now is whether or not Natalie will use her fame to promote her father’s book.
