JDate Sponsors Jewish Film Club
Perfect for Jewish singles who love a good flick.
JDate, the behemoth dating service for Jewish singles, has now branched out to movies. The online company has sponsored a Jewish film-of-the-month club offered by Film Movement, a film distributor that provides award-winning independent and foreign films.
“The Jewish Film Club’s staff travels to the world’s premiere film festivals, identifying the finest in contemporary Jewish-themed cinema. These exemplary films — from around the world — illuminate Jewish themes of history, identity, and culture intended for both affiliated and unaffiliated Jews, as well as people of other faiths and cultures,” Film Movement said in a press release on Monday.
The subscription-based service will provide Canadian and American members with a Jewish-themed feature and short film every other month -- with monthly offerings once the service becomes popular — via a DVD and online streaming. The annual fee is $108, or 6-month and bi-monthly subscriptions of $68 and $28, respectively.
The first offering will be The Human Resources Manager, directed by Eran Riklis. The “tragic-comedy” was Israel’s submission to the foreign language category for this year’s Academy Awards.
Next down the pike will be Protektor, a 2009 Czech film directed by Marek Najbrt. Protektor was critically acclaimed, and appeared on numerous “best film” lists for 2009.
The decade-old Film Movement offers film from nearly 50 countries, including selections and winners from Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Venice, Tribeca and Toronto film festivals.
“A portion of funds from each membership will benefit Chai Lifeline assisting chronically ill children and their families,” the company further stated in its press release.
