Stephen Spielberg and Stephen King Team Up For Under the Dome
The pair partner with Showtime to create an adaptation of the 2009 novel.
DreamWorks Television will produce the project, that follows residents from a Maine town who engage in Battle Royals with each other after a mysterious force field surrounds said town, sequestering them from the outside world.
Spielberg, along with DreamWorks’ Stacey Snider optioned the thousand-plus novel shortly after its 2009 release, what for its initial critical success.
Spielberg and King have a prior working relationship, after the pair teamed up to make a screen adaptation of King and Peter Straub’s The Talisman. Initially published in 1984, Spielberg has apparently possessed the novel’s option rights for over 20 years. The project has seen several incarnations including being developed as a feature film, and most recently in 2006, turned into a six-part miniseries for TNT that was tabled because of budgetary concerns.
Regarding Under the Dome, King will serve as executive producer, in addition to DreamWorks TV’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. As yet, no writer has been attached to pen the project.
