Mitch Winehouse to write memoir ‘Amy, My Daughter’
Mitch and Amy WinehouseAmy Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, signed a deal with HarperCollins to write a memoir of his late daughter, entitled ‘Amy, My Daughter’. The book, which has been called “a definitive account of Amy’s life” will follow the singer from childhood through to the release of ‘Back to Black’ and address her struggles with addiction.
Mitch Winehouse has announced that all proceeds from the book will benefit the Amy Winehouse Foundation- an organization launched on September 14, 2011 that’s sole purpose is to help young people in need.
"[It] will be a must-read for Amy's legions of fans, and also a heartbreaking account of a father's love for his lost daughter that will speak to any parent," wrote Nick Canham, editorial director at Harper Non-Fiction. "The strength Mitch Winehouse has shown over recent months is truly admirable."
Mitch Winehouse believes that writing the memoir will aid in his personal healing process as well.
"I feel that I need to write this book to tell the true story of Amy and to help with my personal recovery," Amy’s father said in a statement.
The former taxi driver wants youth inflicted with mental illness and addiction to have the opportunity to hear Amy’s story, and in turn, seek help- either through the Amy Winehouse Foundation or elsewhere.
“I also want to raise as much money as possible for Amy’s foundation, so all proceeds from the book will go directly to help children who are disadvantaged through illness and substance addiction. I believe that through Amy’s music, her foundation, and this book, her name will live forever”.
“Amy, My Daughter” is due to be published in the summer of 2012.
