Aaron Sorkin In Talks To Write Steve Jobs Biopic
'The Social Network' writer is being considered to write Sony's Steve Jobs biopic
Following yesterday’s much-hyped launch of Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs, there is news that Sony is looking to hire Aaron Sorkin to write the screenplay based on the late tech visionary’s life. Sony had purchased the rights to Jobs’ authorized biography only a few days after he died earlier this month. Now, it looks like Sony is getting ready to make the picture as soon as possible, and according to a person briefed on the project at Sony, they are trying to get Sorkin on board.
Aaron Sorkin, who won an Academy Award for Sony’s 2010 masterpiece The Social Network, a film that also happened to be about genius tech trailblazers, had a relationship with Jobs before his death. According to Sorkin, Jobs had called him at home a number of times to talk about recent episodes of his television show, Studio 60, and even asked him to write a film for Pixar.
Aaron Sorkin is the creator of The West Wing, and recent co-writer on this fall’s hit Moneyball. He is currently working on his new HBO series, formally entitled More As This Story Develops, which is slated to come to television some time next year.
If anyone could write a film about Jobs, I would have to say it would be Sorkin. We know that he can write his way around brilliant and misunderstood geniuses, and we know that he knew Jobs personally. Sorkin’s talent for rapid-fire and impeccably crafted dialogue would prove perfect for the film, and would be certain to become another massive hit for both Sony and Sorkin. Here’s hoping he signs on.
