Spielberg Censored From Tintin Posters in Lebanon
Hollywood producer gets named blacked out from movie poster after being blacklisted from Arab League due to donating $1 million to Israel
The employee covered Spielberg's name after finding out that the producer has been blacklisted by the Arab League's Central Boycott Office in 2006 for making a donation of $1 million to Israel during the 2006 war between Lebanon and Israel.
Once pictures of the censored posters started spreading, theater officials immediately removed the tape placed over the producer's name.
"This was a mistake made by an overzealous employee." said Bassam Eid, theater coordinator for Circuit Empire, which operates a chain of cinemas in Lebanon.
According to an official at General Security, the organization that handles censorship in Lebanon, 'Tintin' should have been banned from Lebanon due to Spielberg's involvement, but that doing so would be ineffective due to the easy access of bootleg movies on the black market.
