Avi Federgreen Launches Indie Distributor in Canada
The Canadian producers new distribution company spotlights Canadian indie films
Canadian film producer Avi Federgreen has created a new distribution company that will spotlight independent Canadian films. Federgreen has been working in the industry for almost 20 years. He’s produced a number of films, including One Week, Moon Point and Score: A Hockey Musical.
Indiecan Entertainment will feature movies by both up-and-coming filmmakers in Canada as well as filmmakers who produce relatively low-budget films (movies made for less than $1,250,000).
"We make many independent films in Canada every year and not even 10 per cent of these films get distribution," said Federgreen in a statement. "Whether they are made by first-time filmmakers or those with low budgets that never see the light of day, who may be lucky enough to get into a festival, which can inject a tiny bit of life into the film's commercial hopes. But it's here where they end up hitting a wall, and this is the situation I would like to change."
Federgreen wants more Canadians to see Canadian films. "We need to not only support Canadian production but also encourage the viewing of Canadian films by Canadian audiences,” he said. “We owe it to our industry, our culture and our country."
