Amy Winehouse’s Family Angered by Gaultier Tribute
Mitch Winehouse said Jean Paul Gaultier never asked permission to use his daughter's likeness.
"The family was upset to see those pictures, they were a total shock. We're still grieving for her loss, and we've had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy's death,” Mitch Winehouse told The Sun, after seeing photographs of the Wednesday show.
"To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on. We're proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste,” he continued.
In his defense, Gaultier, 59, claimed the show was an homage to the late chanteuse.
"I think Amy Winehouse was truly a fashion icon," the designer told Women’s Wear Daily.
However, Mitch Winehouse has said that no one from Gaultier’s camp consulted the family, or even offered to make a donation to The Amy Winehouse Foundation, founded to assist troubled youth.
"No one asked us for permission or offered to make a donation to the foundation. This is purely about Gaultier making money, and that's wrong," he said.
Winehouse was found deceased in her London home on July 23, 2011.
