$100,000 YouTube Clip Hopes to Provide Holocaust Education
Jewish man aims to combat Holocaust denial in America
A seven-minute video costing over $100,000 to produce has been posted on YouTube in the hopes of educating American teens about the Holocaust.
The clip, called Rainbow in the Night, is part of an ambitious campaign headed by Daniel Finkelman, an Orthodox man from Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn. Finkelman hopes to counter the alarming rise of Holocaust denial and ensure non-Jewish teens are aware of the tragedy by using a medium - YouTube - that interests the technologically savvy youth of today.
“There is an entire generation that is growing up in a fast-paced world, in which something new happens every moment,” Finkelman says. “That young generation hasn’t got the patience to learn about the Holocaust. For us it is an inseparable part of the Jewish history; for them it is another black and white entry in the encyclopedia.”
Rainbow in the Night depicts the emotional journey of a survivor as he recounts the events leading up to and during the Holocaust, and in its description reports hoping to perpetuate the spirit of the Jewish people today. Finkelman also intends to combat assimilation, saying that retaining one’s Jewish identity is one of the ways of triumphing over the Nazis.
The film required the involvement of over a hundred cast and crew members and took hundreds of hours to shoot. Most of the clip was filmed in Krakow, Poland, and at the Majdanek concentration camp.
Posted on January 25th, Rainbow has so far received over 38,000 views.
