When it comes to lead singers, the late, great Freddie Mercury is arguably in a category all his own. Entertaining the thought of replacing the iconic singer of Queen would be foolish at best. However, Adam Lambert believes he can at least pay tribute, by joining original Queen members, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor on a tour this summer.

“The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f*****g great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of,” Lambert told The Daily Star.

There was much chattering and speculation in certain circles about a collaboration, after Lambert, May, and Taylor wowed the crowd at the MTV European Music Awards last November.

"After the EMAs, I heard faint little slithers of a backlash from people saying: 'You can't replace Freddie Mercury.' But I already knew that. There's no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That's impossible. The way I'm choosing to view it is that it's a great honour and one I'm in no way going to shirk ... Being asked to front Queen is the best thing that can possibly happen," Lambert continued.

Lambert first graced the stage with May and Taylor, during his finale performance of the 2009 season of American Idol, which he was runner-up. The 30-year-old’s sophomore album, Trespassing, is set to be released March 20.
