Shalom Life is proud to present our 2nd annual ”Top 20 Under 40” list. This list encompasses 20 individuals of diverse occupations and backgrounds from businessmen and businesswomen and innovative entrepreneurs, to philanthropists, entertainers, doctors and more, the list places a spotlight on the myriad of talented, creative and passionate Jews, all under 40, who call Canada home.

Top 20 Under 40- Abby Tobias

Age: 33

Toronto-born Abby Tobias landed on our list due to his incredible talent and entrepreneurial spirit, and his remarkable ability to transform his love for music practiced in his mother’s basement makeshift studio into a successful production and artist management company.

Founded in 2003, Tobias’ Sole Power Productions is one of Canada’s most popular event entertainment and production companies. Tobias’ labour of love also promotes DJ culture and manages up and coming talent. Tobias has produced and entertained at over 1000 events, and Sole Power has successfully executed over 5000.

Sole Power was utilized by the 2012 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and helps in organizing charity events and fundraisers. In 2007, his company produced ‘Breakin’ for Cancer’, a unique event that promoted awareness and raised funds while simultaneously breaking world records. Twelve break-dancers at the event landed a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for “longest break dance”- dancing 24 hours straight.

“That was both an incredible challenge, as well as an exceptionally rewarding event both personally and professionally. We have established relationships with a variety of charities, and are proud to be a part of the terrific work they do. I can’t imagine not being involved like I am. The success of the charity events that we are associated with are some of the largest motivating factors in my life,” Tobias says.

Sole Power makes a donation to Sick Kids hospital for every single event organized and produced by their organization.

Tobias also founded Scratch Lab, a one-of-a-kind educational facility that teaches people of all ages the art of DJ’ing. The school has been approved by the board of education to offer grade 10 and 11 students high school credits.

As if these two endeavors weren’t enough, Tobias is very focused on continuing to diversify and create upscale events and experiences at his venue, Six Degrees.

“Additionally we have our special events expo Showtime, which is entering its third year and quickly growing to become the premier trade show for private events in the country. Our band Keys N' Krates has a new album they have recently released and is touring across North America,” Tobias explains of other projects.

Sole Power executes approx. 700 events annually and is continuing to grow.

When he’s not working, Tobias likes to spend as much time as possible with family and friends… specifically a special woman named “Bubby Rose”. He did not divulge too many details, but we’re glad he’s found love.

Tobias gave an honest interview, and when asked about his advice to young entrepreneurs, you might say it was bittersweet, but altogether quite motivating.

“I was told on numerous occasions that what I wanted to do wasn’t possible, or shouldn’t be attempted. I believe you need to follow your heart, make educated and logical decisions, and work exceptionally hard. If you want something, then go get it. The entrepreneurial spirit can’t be defined or scripted.”
