Israeli Black Hebrews Mourn Loss of Whitney Houston
Israel's Black Hebrew community considered Whitney Houston a "spiritual daughter"
Legendary singer, Whitney Houston, was found dead Saturday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Houston’s friends, family, fans and the music industry have suffered a huge loss.
Ben Ammi Ben-Israel, leader of Israel’s Black Hebrew community, has also expressed his community’s mourning for their “spiritual daughter”.
The Black Hebrews are a small community of 2,500 vegan polygamists who reside in the Israeli desert town of Dimona. The group moved from the United States to Israel decades ago, and believes they are descendants of a lost tribe of Israelites.
Houston visited the group in 2003 with her family and stayed for a week. She often recalled her strong connection to the community and considered Israel a very spiritual place. Ben-Israel said that he recently invited the singer back to Israel “to help her overcome her problem.”
