The Black Keys Frontman Slams Justin Bieber and the Grammys
Dan Auerbach denigrates the Biebs and the music industry's big night.
“There’s so much good music in the US and there is just a small section that gets recognized at the Grammys. I don’t have any patience, and I can’t bullshit myself by sitting through a Justin Bieber song. I am not interested in that shit. I am an adult and really I don’t know who the f*@k listens to Justin Bieber,” Dan Auerbach said in an interview with The Sun.
Given that the band was awarded three Grammys last year, including Best Alternative Music Album for Brothers, an interesting stance to adopt. Apropos of the Biebs, why such denigration, really? What rhymes with la bouche?
However, Auerbach said that he and bandmate, Patrick Carney do appreciate their success more because it was a gradual process.
“Stuff used to piss me off and I’d moan about it. Like ‘Why aren’t we up here on the bill? Why aren’t we playing a higher festival slot? I don’t know. I’m glad it took us this long because we appreciate every opportunity that we’ve got. Every step up we feel better about it. I love our audience – that they are all so different. Old and new fans across the board. The shows have got bigger – but gradually, so it’s lessened the blow.”
Auerbach and Carney formed The Black Keys as an independent act in 2001, after they dropped out of college. The band has 7 studio albums that have sold over 2 million copies, legions of fans, and yes, the three aforesaid Grammys. Presently, the boys from Ohio are touring the United Kingdom to push their latest album, El Camino.
