HBO’s hit fantasy sensation, Game of Thrones, based on George R.R Martins novels, has been renewed for a third season after only two episodes of the current second season. Can anyone actually be surprised by this decision? What does surprise me is that HBO only decided to renew the show for one season. Didn’t True Blood get renewed for something insane like 9 seasons after the second season?

"Series creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss raised our expectations for the second season — and then surpassed them," HBO president of programming Michael Lombardo said in a press release.

"We are thrilled by all the viewer and media support we've received for the series, and can't wait to see what Dan and David have in store for next season."

Game of Thrones season 2 premiered on April 1st to a whopping 3.86 million viewers during its initial airing. What’s more impressive- HBO mentioned in their renewal announcement that the premiere episode has already accumulated 8.3 million viewers, making it “on track to easily surpass the season one average of 9.3 million viewers.”

If you’re into power struggles, beautiful cinematography, incest, remarkable actors, baby-slaying, and a unique storyline, check out Game of Thrones on HBO Sunday nights at 9pm.
