Joseph Gordon-Levitt Developing “Little Shop of Horrors” Remake
The Dark Knight Rises star plans to take on the classic musical
Second only to James Franco, as the actor with the most fingers in the most proverbial pies, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is evidently developing a remake of the cult classic, Little Shop of Horrors.
Originally, Little Shop of Horrors was a low-budget 1960 film by Roger Corman about a nerdy florist named Seymour who discovers an alien plant with a penchant for human flesh. It spawned an off-Broadway musical, which in turn, birthed the 1986 version starring Rick Moranis that most folks are familiar with.
Gordon-Levitt, who has already demonstrated his musical capabilities in the past, will play Seymour. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a staff writer for Glee and the playwright responsible for the Broadway smash, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, will pen the script. Veteran producer, Marc Platt, who brought Wicked to the “Great White Way”, and Legally Blonde and Wanted to the big-screen, will produce. No word yet, as to what director will be at the helm.
In addition to prepping for his directorial debut, and running a multi-media website, Gordon-Levitt has three high profile films coming down the pike for 2012: Rian Johnson’s Looper, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. Busy, busy man indeed.
