This Sunday is Mother’s Day – Set Your Clocks Back to the Day You Were Born
Mother’s Day is Celebrated in More than 46 Countries Across the Globe
Remember to set your clocks back this Sunday….back to the day you were born, because it’s Mother’s Day, the day when we all revert to being children falling over ourselves to cater to mom’s every wish while looking for validation.
Okay, maybe that’s just me.
Personally, I’ve always found it odd that we celebrate Mothers Day but not Children’s Day, because, if I understand this correctly, without the kids, there would be no mothers!
If you’re looking for someone to blame for being stuck in a florist shop on Sunday, paying triple the regular price for a dozen long-stems, look no further than the ancient Greeks who celebrated their annual spring festival in honor of Rhea, the mother of many Gods and Goddesses in Greek mythology. Ancient Romans also celebrated a spring festival called Hilaria in honor of Cybele, a mother goddess.
Today Mothers Day is celebrated in more than 46 countries across the globe on a variety of dates in May.
And, as much as my mother may have screwed me up, I do give her credit for raising three “unique” boys, all with very different personalities. The fact that my two brothers and I are even somewhat functional, employed adults who, as of yet have no prison record, can be attributed directly to her maternal skills.
Besides, I suppose at some age, “children” – whether they’re in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s or 50’s, have to take ownership of their lives and stop blaming every failed relationship, or any other negative event on poor ol’ Mom!
Let’s face it, they all did the best they could, and without them, the chances of us being born would be greatly diminished.
So, this Sunday, let’s all get over to mom’s place first thing in the morning, make her breakfast in bed, give her some flowers, and thank her for putting up with our shit all these years. I know that’s what I’ll be doing!
I love you, Mom!
