Gilad Shalit Visits ‘Homeland’ Set in Tel Aviv
Reality meets fiction when former captured IDF soldier visits the set of Homeland, which follows a U.S Marine who returns home after al-Qaeda capture.
The cast and crew of hit TV series ‘Homeland’ is currently in Tel Aviv filming second season. Paparazzi have not been subtle, to say the least, following Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin around everywhere they go… but the photographers went wild when they discovered former captured IDF soldier, Gilad Shalit, arrived on the shows’ set Tuesday.
Shalit’s story is remarkably close to that of ‘Homelands’ main character, Nicholas Brody. Brody, played by Damian Lewis, was abducted by militants and held captive for years- returning home very recently.
Since Hamas released 25-year old Shalit on October 18th, he has not made many public appearances. Apparently, he has caught up on ‘Homeland’ and the original Israeli show in which it’s based, ‘Hatufiim’, and is an avid fan of both shows.
‘Hatuffim’s’ writer/director, Gideon Raff, was unable to invite Shalit to the set of his show because it turns out their last day of filming happened to be the exact day Shalit was released… so instead, Raff invited the soldier to the set of ‘Homeland’ during the week they are shooting in Israel.
“But, luckily,” says Shalit, “… there is a next season.”
