Bono Richest Musician on Earth, Thanks to Zuckerberg
The U2 front man could beat out Paul McCartney as the world’s most wealthy rock star, thanks to a Facebook investment.
Bono is best known for U2 and his prolific philanthropic work, mostly aiding various African charities. But, as of 4pm EST, Bono will also gain the moniker of “world’s wealthiest musician”, and it’s all thanks to Facebook.
As we all know, Facebook goes public today. In 2009, Bono’s investment group Elevation Partners, purchased 2.3 percent of the social network for a cool $90 million. It is estimated that when the market closes today, that investment will bring in approx. $1.5 billion. Not too bad for a day’s work.
Sure, Bono won’t see all that money personally. It is called Elevation “Partners” after all, but it will earn the Irish rocker enough to beat out Paul McCartney as the richest rock star on the planet.
The best news of all is that, according to Rolling Stone, Bono’s earnings from the Elevation Partners investment groups are mostly donated to the African charities he works closely with.
