Mac Miller to Appear on MTV2’s Premiere of ‘Hip Hop Squares’
The rapper will join Fat Joe, Machine Gun Kelly, Ghostface Killah and others on a twist of the classic game show.
‘Hip Hop Squares’ is set to launch tonight, May 22nd, on MTV2. The concept is very similar to its predecessor ‘Hollywood Squares’, but as the title indicates, will feature hip hop stars instead of Hollywood celebrities.
‘Hip Hop Squares’ was created to entice the target demographic for MTV’s new station, MTV2.
"The show will refresh an iconic format and create a fun, dynamic series that's unpredictable, heavy on personality and much more 'party' than 'game show,'" said Paul Ricci, MTV2’s head of programming.
MTV2 hopes to present smart, funny, and relevant content targeted towards “Malennials”, as Ricci lovingly referred to them.
Mac Miller will be one of the featured 9 squares in the show’s premiere. Nick Cannon, DJ Khaled, Fat Joe, Machine Gun Kelly, Jackass’ Bam Margera, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley, and Ghostface Killah of Wu Tang Clan fame will occupy other squares.
If you don’t remember the original show, two contestants compete in a tic-tac-toe style game, each representing either X or O. They are asked to chose a celebrity guest to play alongside them, that will be provided with a trivia question. After the celebrity guest (or ‘hip hop star’ in this version) provides an answer, the contestant has to decide whether he will accept or deny. If they are correct, their X or O takes over that square until they achieve a line of three, just like in the old-fashion pencil on paper game.
‘Hip Hop Squares’ premieres May 22nd at 11 p.m on MTV2, and is hosted by New York radio DJ Peter Rosenberg.
