It would appear that Scarlett Johansson is searching for slightly “meatier” roles, than that of Black Widow in the blockbuster, The Avengers. The New York Times reported that the 27-year-old is in talks to play Margaret (Maggie the Cat), in a revival of Tennessee Williams Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Written in 1955, the play follows the relationships of a wealthy Mississippi plantation family, especially that of husband and wife, Maggie and Brick.

Two leading actors in contention for the role of the alcoholic Brick are Johansson’s Avengers co-star Jeremy Renner, and Chris Pine, who just wrapped the sequel to 2009’s Star Trek. The remaining roles of Big Daddy, Big Mama et al, have yet to finalized and announced.

Johansson is no stranger to The Great White Way, having garnered a Tony Award in 2010, for her debut in A View From The Bridge. Perhaps that’s why legendary Broadway producer, Stuart Thompson (who incidentally produced A View) is so eager to reunite with her in this revival.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is scheduled to premiere with all its sultry, Southern charm on Broadway in the spring of 2013.
