Andy Samberg Mocks Horrific Cannibal Attacks [VIDEO]

I would like to begin by saying up until this point I was a huge Andy Samberg fan, but after seeing this video, my opinion might be permanently altered.

As you’ve undoubtedly heard, three separate cannibal-related attacks have occurred over the last couple weeks. I prefer not to go into a lot of detail because the mere thought of the happenings makes my stomach weak, but just in case you’ve somehow missed the headlines, here’s a brief summary.

Beginning on May 24^th, Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, allegedly killed Jun Lin. After the murder, he reportedly cut up Lin’s body, performed sexual acts on the remains, and proceeded to eat pieces of the flesh. Afterwards, a video shot by Magnotta of the event was posted online.

The cannibalistic tragedy that has probably gotten the most media attention to date is that of Rudy Eugene and Ronald Poppo in Miami. On May 26^th, a police officer was forced to shoot Eugene several times after he refused to stop eating the face of Poppo. The incident has been blamed on the new designer drug, “bath salts”, causing extreme aggression in normally non-violent individuals.

The third incident involves a Swedish man that cut off his wife’s lips and ate them after suspecting she was cheating on him.

I apologize for making you aware of these horrific events if you’ve managed to ignore the news until now.

Somehow, Andy Samberg decided that it would be good fun to create a mock PSA explaining why people should not eat other people. He calls the organization Citizens Are Not Naturally Ingested by Americans League (C.A.N.N.I.B.A.L) and intersperses short clips of a man chewing on an elderly man’s arm (with Samberg suggesting he consume a cheeseburger instead), the lead singer of the Fine Young Cannibals, and a talking dog.

Beyond the simple fact that the skit is poorly written, when did it become acceptable to laugh at human beings that have been killed, disfigured, and/or brutalized?

You may wonder how this “joke” differs from racist jokes, gender jokes, or other forms of offensive humor? In most cases, comedians are pointing out the ridiculousness of a stereotype or simply being self-deprecating.

This is not an issue of crossing a line; it is ignorance… plain and simple.
