Hebrew National Hot Dogs Aren’t Kosher?
A class-action lawsut has been filed against parent company, ConAgra Foods Inc., alleging consumer fraud.
Hebrew NationalAccording to the lawsuit, AER Services Inc., the company that slaughtered and processed meat for ConAgra, evidently failed to follow protocol that would make the meat 100% kosher. Likewise, it claims that AER supervisors threatened and even terminated employees who complained about the company’s practices. Consequently, it is alleged that ConAgra misled its consumers to believe that the products were 100% kosher.
"While we can't comment on pending litigation, we stand behind the quality of Hebrew National and its kosher status," Teresa Paulsen, a spokesperson for ConAgra, said in a statement.
"The allegations in the complaint regarding AER are completely and utterly false. There is no basis for them, and they are without any merit," Shlomoh Ben-David, president of AER, told The Chicago Tribune.
AER is not a defendant in the suit.
“This is an invisible fraud. How does a consumer who thinks he is buying kosher meat really know he is buying kosher meat? It’s a very, very difficult thing for a consumer to detect, unless someone investigates,” Hart Robinovitch, an attorney for the plaintiffs told Reuters.
The 11 plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages, and injunction against further mislabeling by ConAgra.
The 63-year-old was given the € 50,000 award for being "one of the driving forces of world photojournalism".
