Joan Rivers Handcuffs Self to Shopping Cart, Calls Costco ‘Nazi Germany’
The comedian led a one-woman protest against Costco banning her new book
Joan Rivers at CostcoPic: TMZJoan Rivers’ newest book ‘I Hate Everything… Starting with Me’ has landed a spot on the New York Times bestseller list several weeks in a row, but the comedian is still outraged that Costco refuses to sell it due to racy jokes appearing on the back cover.
Instead of accepting the memoir’s success at every other retail outlet, Rivers arrived at a Costco location in Burbank, CA on Tuesday to stage a protest against “unjust censorship”, according to TMZ.
Store management called in local cops after Rivers handcuffed herself to a shopping cart, yelling “Costco should not be like Nazi Germany. Next thing they’ll be burning the bible” into a bullhorn.
She continues by screaming, “This is not a Costco property. It was stolen from the Indians.”
When the police officers arrived, they asked Rivers to leave the store. She complied immediately and the one-woman protest was over.
TMZ obtained the hilarious footage of the event, including a moment when even the cops couldn’t help but laugh.
