Top 5 Jewish Social Media Feeds
Shalom Life lists the top Jewish news, video and blog sites around the internet
As Israeli President Shimon Peres likes to say, “We used to be the people of the book. Now we're the people of the Facebook.”
Like every other aspect of the world, Jewish life has quickly adapted to the internet. Whether it’s culture, religion or politics, Judaism has shifted to the virtual world where almost everything is dominated today by social media.
Many have attempted to make their mark on the internet with Jewish-themed blogs, videos, and news sites. Shalom Life is proud to present the most successful of these social media endeavours.
#5: Frum Satire
With over 1,000 “likes” on Facebook and 4,000+ followers on Twitter (@FrumSatire), Frum Satire is one of the leading Jewish comedy blogs on the internet. Founded in 2006 by Heshy Fried, still the main operator of the site, Frum Satire now also has six other contributors, as well as numerous guest pieces from time to time.
Fried lists the following quote on his website to describe the nature of his blog:
“Heshy Fried takes humorous situations and idiosyncrasies inherent with living an observant lifestyle and rants about them in both a highly animated and humorous manner. I would describe him sort of as the ‘Frum Dennis Miller.’”
Some of the most recent blog posts are titled “My non-Shidduch Resume,” “21 ways not to be a Harry,” and “Tu’Bav and the Single Guy.” The more popular entries on the site have amassed a rough average of nearly 10,000 readers each.
The blog also includes a glossary page featuring an extensive alphabetical list of terms which Fried often uses, as well as their meanings. The first term listed, Alter Cocker, carries the following description:
“Old man. These are the cute loud old men who sit in back of shul with their canes, and talk about broads. They also tend to consume massive amounts of herring and borsht. Plaid pants and shuffle board are their hobbies.”
And in case you were wondering, a Bris is “when we go snip snip to the baby’s foreskin.”

#4: JewTube

Wondering where you can find a combination of videos featuring comedy, news, religion and all those Jewish holiday-themed musical parodies? Well then look no further than Jew Tube.
A Jewish version of Youtube, the Los Angeles and Israel-based JewTube describes itself as “the leading video sharing site for the Jewish community and premier destination to watch and share Jewish-themed videos… Anyone with an internet connection or mobile phone can view videos on JewTube to get a first-hand account of current events in and related to Israel, find funny or offbeat videos, discover new music, learn about Jewish history, Judaism or even Kaballah,” the site states.
Users can also upload content to the site, visit specific channels, and connect with friends who have also signed up.
The viewer count on the site’s top five most watched videos range from nearly 145,000 (“Crank That Kosha Boy”) to almost 1.2 million (A Birthright tribute for Israel’s 60th birthday).
JewTube also currently has over 7,000 followers in Twitter (@JewTubeDotCom).
