Israeli-American LGBT Org. Expands Online Presence
A Wider Bridge expands online presence with acquisition of Abbanibi.com
A Wider Bridge, a non-profit organization founded in 2010, working to bring together the LGBT communities of Israel and North America, has announced the acquisition of Jewish-American culture website, Abbanibi.com.
A Wider Bridge launched their new website in July, “designed to be a hub for news, culture and opinion about LGBT and Jewish life in Israel and America,” according to a press release. The organization explains that the acquisition of Abbanibi will aid in their online outreach.
“We are very excited about what the addition of Abbanibi means for the expansion of new, timely and original content on our website, and we welcome the readers of Abbanibi in both the U.S. and Israel to the growing community of A Wider Bridge,” said Arthur Slepian, Executive Director of A Wider Bridge.
Yanir Dekel, Abbanibi’s founder and Israeli journalist, will serve as editor for A Wider Bridge’s website. Dekel currently lives in Los Angeles, and contributes regularly to Israeli magazine, TV, and radio.
“We are especially pleased to have Mr. Dekel join the team of A Wider Bridge. His success in building Abbanibi.com and his skills as a journalist and with social media in both Israel and the U.S. will be a great asset to the further online development of A Wider Bridge,” Slepian continues.
“As an Israeli, I see that the LGBT community in Israel has always looked beyond the borders of the state, looking to study and build strong and personal connections with other gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in Europe and in the United States. On the other hand, Jewish American LGBT people have an extraordinary potential to connect to Israel in a unique and personal way - an identification with another important part of who they are. In that sense, I believe that A Wider Bridge’s quest to forge a strong connection between these communities can become a vibrant supporting pillar in the social development of the state of Israel, and at the same time work to strengthen the Jewish identity of LGBT ‘Members of the Tribe,’” said Dekel.
