British Call Girl 'Belle du Jour' is...Jewish?
The recently outed British call girl -- a.k.a. Belle du Jour -- credits her Jewish background as the reason she entered prostitution to avoid debt.
Pic: Photo courtesy of affiliate TV seriesBrooke Magnanti, the British cancer researcher who recently admitted she was the mysterious “Belle du Jour” – a high-priced call girl who spun her notoriety into a blog, book, and a prime-time television series – has credited her Jewish background as the reason she was so eager to get out of debt.
“I have a pathological aversion to being in debt,” she said in a newspaper interview. “My mother’s family are Jewish there's this hoarding thing, saving, being prepared – if you're in debt, somebody could come and knock on your door and take it all away tomorrow.”
Magnanti became a call girl in 2003 when faced with her mounting bills as a PhD student. She started an anonymous blog about her experiences, which led to a lucrative book deal and a hit 2007 TV series starring Billie Piper, called “Secret Diary of a Call Girl.”
Currently, Magnanti, 34, works as a cancer research scientist at a hospital in Bristol, western England.
