Diane Wolkstein Headlines Storytelling Fest
The 32nd annual Toronto Festival of Storytelling starts March 25.
Diane Wolkstein in Central ParkPic: Jefferson Siegel, New York Daily NewsDiane Wolkstein – whose four decades as a storyteller led Mayor Michael Bloomberg to name June 22, 2007 “Diane Wolkstein Day” in her honour – is headlining the 32nd annual Toronto Festival of Storytelling, which takes place in venues across the city from Thursday, March 25 to Sunday, March 28, 2010.
Wolkstein, the author of 23 award-winning books of folklore as well as numerous CDs and DVDs, will take part in three events at the Toronto Reference Library, Dovercourt Baptist Church and 918 Bathurst.
Other highlights include the UK’s Geoff Mead, who is a storyteller, author and Director for The Centre for Narrative Leadership Stephanie Beneteau from Quebec, who will be telling stories in French and English and Melvin John and the Kehewin Native Dance Theatre, who will bring Trickster and Creation Stories through a First Nations lens.
Events are free, pay-what-you-can, or affordably ticketed, and besides storytelling, also include family and adult storytelling workshops and live music.
