Israeli to Bike Across the United States for Cancer Research
Tom Peled's passion fueled by father's death from cancer

Before long, Peled, a 24-year-old Israeli, will be a household name in the battle against cancer, after his August 1st Bike For The Fight ride across the United States that will raise money to support cancer research in Israel.
After arriving on the “left coast”, specifically in Los Angeles, Peled will peddle his way across America, all the way to New York, making stops in Memphis, Tennessee, Houston, Texas, Las Vegas, Nevada, Chicago, Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia along the way.
All proceeds will be donated to the Israel Cancer Research Fund (ICRF) which, since 1975, has donated more than $40 million to support innovative studies by Israeli scientists, with many lifesaving achievements being made in all fields of cancer research.
So, what motivates someone to take a break from their comfortable life to take on a mission as grueling and exhausting as biking across the United States promises to be?
For Peled, it was a no-brainer after seeing his father die of cancer in 2011. As a catharsis during that difficult time, the young Israeli took part in a 3,000 mile European bike ride last year.
During his Bike For The Fight marathon, Peled will be making appearances – on two wheels, of course - through Jewish communities and summer camps, as well as big league sporting events where he will try to encourage others to open their hearts – and wallets – to his cause.
Peled, who has already met with, and received the support of Israeli President Shimon Peres, will begin fundraising efforts in Israel on June 1 with a local student bike trip through the streets of Tel Aviv organized by The Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, where Peled is a first-year student.
