It is still unknown exactly what was the object that fell from the sky into Bat Yam’s beach on Saturday, but geologists now say that the object was not a meteor.

Dr. Ittai Gavrieli, Director of the Geological Survey of Israel told Ynet that an examination of a small particle of the object determined without a doubt that it is not a meteor (or any other celestial object for that matter), but rather a man-made object.

Gavrieli said that it is not surprising that the object continued burning for a long period of time despite having been put inside water, since it had high concentration of phosphorus, which is naturally ignited when coming into contact with air and inflammatory material.

Dr. Gavrieli told Ynet: “It is definitely not a meteor and not a different natural substance – somebody created it, and it did not appear from outer space”. He added that he was “not familiar with such incidents occurring in the past. Maybe other sources can answer questions such as how it's made, who made it, etc.”
