Israel's Weizmann Institute: Second Best Place to Work

The Weizmann Institute of Science was placed second in an international list of “Best Places to Work in Academia,” outside the U.S., by the The Scientist magazine.

Readers ranked Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey as the top institute in the U.S., and The University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia as the number one international academic institution.

This is the third time the Weizmann Institute has been ranked second on the international list of best places to work, and has been ranked number one twice before.

Many of the institutions ranked have performed consistently well over recent years.

The Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, is one of the world's top-ranking multidisciplinary research institutions. It has been noted for its wide-ranging exploration of the natural sciences, and is home to 2,600 scientists, students, technicians and staff.

Weizmann Institute research initiatives include investigating new ways of fighting disease and hunger, exploring principal questions in mathematics and computer science, examining the physics of matter and the universe, and creating new materials and strategies for safe-guarding our environment.

This particular survey is a yearly one The Scientist magazine likes to give its readers the chance to cite research resources and opportunities for advancement as their institutions’ major strengths.

According to Associate Editor Edyta Zielinska, who oversees the publication’s Best Places surveys, "We are pleased to give our readers the opportunity to report what they love and hate about their institutions through the Academia survey."

Jerusalem’s Hebrew University ranked fifth this year on the same list.
