A Scottish municipality -- thankfully -- decided that a motion comparing Israel’s treatment of Palestine to apertheid was not going to pass.

Fraser Machpherson, a liberal Democrat Councilman presented a motion, which actually reprimanded the Israeli government for, "its continuing illegal occupation of East Jerusalem and the West Bank and the illegal blockade of Gaza."

Macpherson became so passionate about the subject that he publicly called for a boycott of Israeli goods and services, but the section was left out after he received legal advice.

Interestingly, the city council commended the words of President Barack Obama who encouraged the UK to set an example of peace within its regions.

In a quote from CJNews, “It was accepted that Israelis have the right to live in peace, but the council deeply regrets the disproportionate response of the Israeli military against aid convoys and Palestinian protesters which has led to unnecessary suffering, lasting bitterness and international condemnation.”

The council made sure to point out that, "there has never been a ban on buying or lending books by Israeli authors in libraries in Dundee."

The vote is upcoming and takes places shortly after the West Dunbartonshire Council, which includes of towns and villages West of Glasgow, asked that newer books from Israeli authors should not be allowed in council libraries.

This ban occurred due to a pre-emptove one, two and a half years ago after the Gaza war boycott of goods produced in Israel.

According to lawmakers, this council has been officially ordered to avoid the sale of goods from Israel.
