Queen Elizabeth Blessed by Chief Rabbi of Britain on Her Jubilee
Rabbi Writes Special Prayer in Queen’s Honour
Those of us who watched as Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and other iconic entertainers paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth’s 60th year on the Royal Throne this week may be surprised – and delighted – to learn that there is also a Jewish angle to the Jubilee celebration.
It turns out that Jonathan Sacks, the Chief Rabbi of Britain, has written a special prayer to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s 60 years on the job.
The prayer, already being recited in shuls across Britain, specifically acknowledges the Queen’s attempts to promote good relationships among all faiths.
The prayer reads, in part, as follows: “Her crown is honor and majesty; her scepter, law and morality, equality and freedom. Her concern has been for welfare, freedom and unity, and in the lands of herdominion she has sustained justice and liberty for all races, tongues and creed.”
The chief rabbi then went on to wish the Queen many years of health. “Together with all our fellow citizens, we fervently pray that she be granted many more years of blessing so that she may continue to bring honor and glory to the crown and to all her people.”
The chief rabbi also called for peace and prosperity in Britain and Israel.
We pray for the peace and prosperity of Britain, for the well-being of the House of Israel, and for the redemption of all mankind under the sovereignty of God,” said the rabbi.
