Swastikas, SS Members Part of WWII Commemoration Event
British Couple Declines Request to Dress as Victims of the Shoah
From the “are you kidding me?!” news file comes word that Merton and Barbara Paul, a Jewish British couple, were asked to participate in a British World War II commemoration event in rather questionable attire.
Organizers of the Annual Wartime Event asked the Pauls if they would mind dressing up as Holocaust victims for the event, complete with a yellow Star of David on their jackets, while they were to carry beaten up suitcases, as did the Jewish victims of the Shoah.
Responding to the rather tasteless invitation, Merton Paul told the Daily Telegraph, "It was an innocent question but of course we wouldn't want to do that. No Jewish person would. It's very upsetting to see people in these uniforms. It is completely disrespectful to the six million Jews and other people who were killed at the hands of the Nazis."
Making the event even more despicable is the fact that some of the participants of the weekend festivities dressed up like members of the SS, and swastikas were allowed, as well.
