Graffiti Thanking Hitler Sprayed at Holocaust Museum

Graffiti written in Hebrew praising Hitler for the Holocaust and denouncing Zionism was found at Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem.

A total of 10 slogans were painted on the museum’s walls, including “Thank you Hitler for your wonderful Holocaust that you arranged for us, it’s only because of you that we got a state at the UN.”

Yad Vashem director, Avner Shalev, has called the graffiti “a callous expression of burning hatred”, and is pointing blame at ultra-Orthodox extremists who are opposed to the modern state of Israel.

“One of the slogans was signed with the words 'World Haredi Jewry'," Shalev says, explaining that Haredi is the Hebrew word for ultra-Orthodox Jews.

Spray painted slogans were also found on the red-brick Wall of Remembrance in Warsaw Ghetto Square, with one of them reading “The Zionist leadership wanted the Holocaust” and another reading, “If Hitler hadn’t existed, the Zionists would have invented him.”

At the cattle car, a memorial remembering the millions of Jews that were transported throughout Europe to Nazi death camps, additional graffiti was found.

"The particularly disturbing slurs included poisonous attacks on Zionism. The main motif was that Zionism caused the Holocaust," Shalev said.

Jerusalem police are checking CCTV footage around the museum in hopes of discovering the vandals’ identity.
