New International Jewish Award Established
The Genesis Prize is Set to Honour Jewish Achievement
The creation of a new international Jewish award was announced earlier this week, and it will give one of “The Chosen” something else to be chosen for.
Dubbed the Jewish Nobel Prize, the Genesis Prize, which is said to be worth $1 million, was announced in a June 26th joint statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, along with Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky and Genesis Philanthropy Group founder Mikhail Fridman.
Like the original Nobel Prize, the Genesis winners will be selected from a list of candidates based on their professional achievements. The only difference between this award and the Nobel, is that the winner is guaranteed to be a Jew.
Winners will be presented with the awards in an annual ceremony around Passover, by PM Netanyahu.
The winners will be selected by a panel of Jewish community leaders from across the Diaspora, as well as members of the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Genesis group,
"The Genesis Prize emphasizes the contribution of the Jews to world history," said Fridman. "Far-reaching achievements in science, the arts, business, medicine, diplomacy and other fields of human endeavor have been realized thanks to the Jewish people's natural aspiration to improve the world, and to its desire to pass its moral values on to coming generations. This tradition of the Jewish People must continue."
