Israel Stops Hezbollah Terror Cell That Smuggled 20kg of Explosives into Israel
Shin Bet, Police arrest 13 people in connection with plot to attack various Israeli targets.
The police and Shin Bet have uncovered a terror cell poised to carry out attacks in Israel.
According to details made available Wednesday by the Nazareth Court 13 residents of northern Israel, including a 17-year-old, were arrested for alleged terror affiliation.
Some 21 kilograms of C4 explosives were seized during the investigation, along with sophisticated detonators, weapons and drugs.
The suspects were apparently meant to targets various Israeli locations according to instructions from Hezbollah.
Northern Police District Commander Major Geneal Roni Atiya held a special press conference Wednesday: "This organization was one of the most dangerous ones we've encountered in recent years. This was an intelligence success such as we've come to expect from our intelligence officers."
The investigation began in early July, after the intelligence coordinator at the Lebanon border unit obtained information regarding the planned smuggling of a large shipment of explosives.
The information was transferred to the Shin Bet and a joint investigation revealed that 24 charges with advanced triggers were smuggled from Lebanon into Israel through the village of Rajar, on the border.
Two separate cells were apprehended during the investigation: one from the village of Rajar, tasked with smuggling the explosives, and another from Nazareth, which was meant to receive the charges, hide them and transfer them to the terrorists meant to execute the attacks at a later date.
Atiya added that, "These are dangerous, murderous and vicious squads – some of them are 'criminals,' who planned and carried out harsh attacks. Once the information was received, we informed the Shin Bet and began conducting a joint investigation that lasted 40 days, during which we exposed dozens of explosive charges."
