Team Israel
History was made on Thursday evening, as Israel’s first-ever entry into the qualifying round of the World Baseball Classic came out on top in its game against South Africa. Team Israel beat the South Africans 7 -3 in Jupiter, Florida.

The team, managed by former major leaguer Brad Ausmus and features an impressive roster of current – and former – major league players including Shawn Green, Gabe Kapler and, if he’s healthy, Chicago White Sox slugger, Kevin Youkilis, got a surprising power performance from Nate Freiman, a minor league player currently on the San Diego Padres Double A team, who hit two home runs.

Two other teams – Spain and France - must also qualify to play in March’s World Baseball Classic, and only one of those teams will take to the field when the games really matter.
