The Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Erdogan, acknowledged in an interview with a daily Turkish newspaper that it was in Israel's best interest to reestablish good relations with his country. According to Erdogan, this was because Israel only has ties to one Muslim county in the region.

It is for this reason, Erdogan suggested that Israel sent "the richest Jewish man in the World" to repair the relationship the two countries once shared.

“They sent the richest Jewish man in the world [to us] a couple of months ago. What was the reason? He was supposed to be intercessor,” Erdogan explained.

The daily newspaper, Hurriyet, also reported that the wealthy man Erdogan referred to was probably cosmetic giant Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress, who is closely tied to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Still other Turkish media outlets suggested the man could also have been Sheldon Adelson, casino mogul.

Edrogan was adamant that the only way Israel could restore the relationship it once shared with Turkey would be for Israel to apologize for the nine Turkish deaths associated with the Mavi Marmara, the ship sent to break Israel's blockade of Gaza, to compensate the victims' families and finally for Israel to lift the gaza blockade completely.
